Post Doc in Agricultural Biotechnology and Molecular Biology
University of Copenhagen Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences

Postdoc of Agricultural biotechnology and Molecular biology

Two postdoctoral positions are available from August 1st, 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a 3 years with the possibility of extension in the Section of Transport Biology, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

The postdocs will work on the project “DEEPROOTS: Future research into the development of high-yielding perennial grasses that bind carbon in the soil” financed by Innovation Fund Denmark. This project explores a novel strategy in our quest to face climate change. Utilizing perennial grasses for food and feed production, the soil sequestration of carbon will be dramatically increased, hence, greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced. Among the perennial grasses, there is ongoing breeding of intermediate wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium). A major task will be to assign function to putative domestication genes in T. intermedium, which will allow for a targeted mutagenesis approach to accelerate domestication of this perennial. Thus, the project will take a major step towards generation of a new grain crop and during this process provide fundamental insights into the process of domestication.
