Post Doctoral Researcher in Biochemistry and Cell Biology
University College Cork, School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology

Post-Doctoral Researcher - 2 positions, School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology

2 Years 8 Months, Fixed-Term, Whole-time Post

Position summary

Two Science Foundation Ireland- funded postdoctoral positions are available in the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology to work in a research programme on the regulation of cellular metabolism to promote healthy ageing. One project will investigate a highly conserved Insulin-like growth factor signalling pathway required for cell survival, mitochondrial turnover, and metabolic adaptations in ageing and cancer. The other project will investigate how activity of the IGF-1 Receptor in cancer cells is controlled by oncogenic kinases and adhesion signals in cancer progression and therapy resistance (see Lyons et al., J. Biol. Chem. 2017, Stanicka et al., Oncogene 2018 and Cox et al., Cancer Res. 2019).

We are seeking highly motivated Post-Doctoral Researchers with demonstrated research achievement and who ultimately wish to pursue careers in either academia or industry. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with a team of international researchers in Cork and with collaborating laboratories in the USA, Europe and Japan. The research will involve a wide range of biochemical, genetic and molecular cell biology approaches, including CRISPR-based cell and mouse models, protein structure-function analyses, cell function assays, and imaging technologies.

The School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology provides a supportive research and career development environment with University College Cork offering a suite of career development initiatives through the postdoc hub and the human resources department.
