The position is in the Pharmacovigilance Research Center, at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen. You can find more information about us here:

The project

The project aims at investigating risk factors for severe Covid-19 (i.e. disease leading to hospitalisation, intensive care, or fatal outcome), identifying vulnerable populations, and characterising the disease course, also including intermediate to long-term sequelae among survivors of severe Covid-19. Additionally, it aims at investigating the collateral effects of the pandemic on drug and healthcare utilisation in the general population to assess secondary effects on public health. The project will use valuable existing data sources from four countries including population-based national health registries from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Scotland. We will use both epidemiological and data science methods, i.e. machine learning.

The position

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher, to commence 1 July 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

You will be working with register data in collaboration with other team members and you will contribute to the identification of predictors for a positive test or hospital admission for Covid-19 using machine learning (e.g. conditional inference trees). The position will involve interdisciplinary collaborations within the university, international scientific groups, as well as other public and private partners.

We offer:

  • An interesting job with varied tasks in an active and engaging research environment
  • The opportunity to work with population-based data and with world-class researchers
  • The opportunity for professional advancement and development of an independent research profile
  • An employment with a societal responsibility playing an important role in the health and welfare of the Danish population

The ideal candidate

Essential experience and skills:

  • A PhD degree or similar qualifications within medical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, public health, biostatistics, data science or related research field
  • Research experience within drug safety, pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology, clinical epidemiology, and/or data science
  • Qualifications within machine learning which preferably should be demonstrated through the candidate’s own research
  • Experience with using statistical software such as R or SAS

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience with using big healthcare data such as healthcare registers, and/or electronic health records
  • Qualifications within epidemiological study design and analysis
  • Good interpersonal skills and an enterprising, collaborative and innovative mindset
  • The successful candidate should be flexible and able to work both independently and in teams, and contribute to an inclusive working environment
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken
  • Ability to communicate results academically and also in a popular scientific way to the general public

Terms of employment

Currently, the monthly salary starts at 34,600 DKK/ approx. 4,650 Euro (February 2021-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
