Position Description

The PhD candidate will join an interdisciplinary team combining:

  • CMST (Centre for Microsystems Technology) – Department of Electronics and Information Systems, imec-associated

  • Electrochemistry and Surface Analysis (ESA) – Department of Chemistry

The project aims to develop emerging nanodevices as biosensors for liquid biopsy detection of multiple biomarkers associated with radiation-induced inflammation during prostate cancer treatment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Execute and lead biosensing experiments.

  • Develop and validate electrochemical sensors for inflammatory biomarkers.

  • Design standardized biosensing protocols and frameworks.

  • Analyze and report results in written reports and oral presentations.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary colleagues and integrate sensing technologies across CMST and ESA.

  • Contribute to national funding proposals.


Profile

  • Master’s degree (or expected by June/July 2026) in (Bio)Engineering, Chemical, Biochemical, Biomedical Sciences.

  • Practical experience with electrochemistry, sample preparation, and electrochemical measurement setups.

  • Motivated, proactive, structured, and independent researcher with a collaborative mindset.

  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.

  • Coding skills (Matlab) and experience in scientific writing are a plus.
