Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow/Senior Research Assistant/Research Assistant I/II in Molecular Biology and/or Bioinformatics in the Department of Civil Engineering (Ref.: 508723), to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

We are seeking a highly-motivated individual with a strong background in molecular biology and biomolecular techniques in one or more of the following areas: 

- anaerobic microbial cultivation

- protein analysis (e.g., bioelectrochemical analysis, protein isolation and purification, proteomics)

- genetic manipulation (e.g., gene knockout using transposon mutagenesis and CRISPR, gene knockdown, genetic complementation, etc)

Experience in coupling these techniques to bioinformatics analysis is preferred but not mandatory. The appointee will spearhead the development of biomolecular methods to study proteins/genes associated with quantum microbiology phenomena (e.g., electron transfer in archaeal methanogens, epigenetics control of bioplastic production). 

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Molecular Biology, Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Bioinformatics or related disciplines. They should have an inquisitive mind, willingness to learn new skills and the ability to creatively tackle complex problems. Those who plan to pursue research postgraduate studies are welcome to apply. Those with less experience may be appointed as Senior Research Assistant and Research Assistant I/II.

The appointee will be part of an international joint research collaboration between HKU and Imperial College London (UK), co-led by Dr. Amy Tan and Dr. Po-Heng (Henry) Lee. He/She will assist in grant applications, conduct presentations, and prepare reports for funded projects. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
