Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biology
University of Munster
Germany

The Laboratory of Bioenergetics and Mitochondrial Dynamics in the Faculty of Biology at the University of Münster, Germany, invites applications for a

Postdoctoral Fellowship
(salary level E13 TV-L, 100%)

in the senescence of cardiomyocytes

The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and will remain open until a suitable candidate is notified. The maximal employment duration is three years. Currently, the regular full employment time is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week. All posts can, as a rule, also be filled as part-time positions if there are no compelling work-related reasons against doing so. Teaching load is four hours per week for a full-time position.

The successful candidate will work within an international collaboration that is dedicated to understanding The Role of Mitochondria in the Aging of the Heart. It addresses the basic question of how mitochondrial dynamics is altered during senescence of cardiac myocytes and what the consequences of this alteration are. In cooperation with a partner in Chile, the postdoctoral researcher will investigate how mitochondria contribute to the disturbance of the redox balance and Ca2+ homeostasis in the cell that results in the deterioration of cardiomyocytes’ function.

Required Qualifications:
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with an excellent PhD degree in cell biology who have a genuine interest in pursuing scientific research as a career. Interested candidates should hold a master’s degree/Diplom in biological sciences or physics.

Special Requirements:
Experience in molecular biological, biochemical and cell biological techniques as well as extended knowledge of microscopy (light microscopy and EM), very good knowledge of English and experience with the differentiation of cells from iPSC is required.

The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the proportion of women academics. Consequently, we actively encourage applications by women. Female candidates with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered within the framework of the legal possibilities.
