Overview:

Applications are sought for an exceptional Postdoctoral Research Assistant to undertake genetic and phenotypic investigations into the role of the microenvironment in the progression to cancer in patients with Barrett’s oesophagus. The successful applicatn will work under the supervision of Dr Stuart McDonald, the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Clonal Dynamics in Epithelia laboratory, in order to realise the objectives of a Cancer Research UK-funded Grand Challenge consortium that sets out to understand the role of the stroma in the development of inflammation-associated cancers and to develop novel therapies that block or reverse tumour growth by targeting cells involved in chronic inflammation. The consortium (STORMing CANCER) is a multidisciplinary group that includes leading experts and wet lab scientists, bioinformaticians and clinicians from multiple international institutes.

 

Essential requirements for this post include a PhD in a relevant biological subject (including, but not restricted to; aspects of genetics, immunology and cancer) and an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject. Previous experience in genetic analyses, histology and gene expression is desirable. Experience in the field of the evolution of premalignant disease to cancer would be an advantage. Furthermore, an appropriate publication record is essential. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team and maintain good laboratory records are also essential.

 

The post is full time, fixed term position for up to 3 years (depending on successful annual reviews). Starting salary will be in the range £33,615 - £44,015 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, a pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.
