Postdoctoral Research Associate in Genetics

A Research Associate post is available in the Butterfly Genetics Group directed by Chris Jiggins in the Department of Zoology at the University of Cambridge. Preferred start date from 1st April 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is funded by a new BBSRC international award with collaborators Celso Omoto and Alberto Soares in Sao Paolo, Brazil; Tom Walsh at CSIRO in Australia and Frank Chan from the Max Planck in Tuebingen.

The successful candidate will apply population genomics to study the invasive species Helicoverpa armigera in South America. They will work to carry out genome sequencing, assembly and coordinate sampling and will be responsible for data collection and analysis for the project.

The successful candidate should be educated to PhD level, in a relevant subject such as evolutionary biology, population genetics, biological sciences. They should have a good understanding of evolutionary biology, experience with bioinformatics, computer programming / scripting / data analysis (e.g. R, Python, unix shell) and experience with handling large genomic data set.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for up to 36 months.
