Postdoctoral Research Associate in Structural Biology

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the team of Professor Elena Seiradake. The Seiradake group specialises in structural biology, cell biology and neurobiology, providing access to expertise and training in these areas. The successful candidate will focus on the context-dependent functions of brain receptors in nervous system development. The work will involve a combination of the following techniques: (i) protein expression using mammalian cells, protein purification and biophysical analysis, structural analysis using X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy or (ii) neuronal cell biology, GPCR signalling assays, advanced fluorescent imaging techniques.

 

Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil, in a subject area involving structural biology or neurobiology, and have excellent relevant skills. A good publication record (taking the career stage into account) is expected. You should be well-trained, enthusiastic and self-motivated, with excellent team-working and interpersonal skills. You should also have excellent communication skills. You may be required to travel overseas to conduct collaborative experiments as and when necessary to advance the research project. Specific expertise in the culture of primary cells or cryo-electron microscopy would be advantageous. Applicants with experience in expressing and purifying proteins for structural analysis would also be welcome.

 

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 2 years in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford
