Postdoctoral Researcher In Neurobiology and Neurodegeneration Research Technische Universität München Germany

The Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technische Universität München (TUM) invites applications for Postdoctoral researcher in neurobiology and neurodegeneration research.Appointment is full time and will be initially for two years with the possibility of renewal. Given your involvement in both research and teaching, this position may also be used towards a habilitation.


Description of research: 
The laboratory of Prof. Dr. Stefan Lichtenthaler studies the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Alzheimer’s disease, with a focus on cell surface proteases, such as ADAM10 and BACE1. 
We offer excellent projects and training in neurodegeneration and protease research. Specifically, the lab uses proteomic, biochemical and molecular and cell biological techniques as well as animal models to study the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease) 
We are an international and interdisciplinary team, are part of several larger research consortia in Munich (e.g. DFG-funded excellence cluster SyNergy) and are located in the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases in Munich. 



Your tasks: 
The protease BACE1 is a major drug target in Alzheimer’s disease, but BACE1-targeted inhibitors show side effects in patients, because BACE1 has additional, fundamental functions in neurobiology mediated by a few BACE1 substrates. To better understand the side effects and the molecular functions of BACE1 in brain you will study BACE1-deficient mice and characterize the signaling of one of the BACE1 substrates through a new neuronal receptor. 
You will also participate to about 20% of your time in the teaching of our new Elite Master program “Biomedical Neuroscience”. 



Qualifications and experience: 
You have a PhD in neurobiology, molecular biology or a related field and experience with mice or primary cells of the central or peripheral nervous system, documented by publications. Having completed a FELASA course would be an advantage as well as experience with organotypic slice cultures and histology. You do not need to have previous knowledge about Alzheimer’s disease or neurodegeneration. You are creative, highly motivated and you are able to work independently. Essential qualities include good organizational skills, fluency in English, a strong team spirit and time management skills. 
We give priority to severely disabled applicants with essentially equal qualifications.
