POSTDOCTORAL SCIENTIST POSITION FOR UP TO YEARS TO WORK ON THE SNF-FUNDED BRIDGE-TYPE PROJECT: “TARGETED DELIVERY OF DRUGS AND VACCINE ANTIGENS IN VIVO USING A SAFE AND PROGRAMMABLE BACTERIAL CHASSIS”
We are looking for a flexible, enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join our international and dynamic team to work on the SNF-funded BRIDGE-type project: “Targeted delivery of drugs and vaccine antigens in vivo using a safe and programmable bacterial chassis.” Project partners are Markus Seeger from the University of Zürich and Nicolas Ruggli from the Institute of Virology and Immunology-IVI. Earliest starting date is September 2025. Our lab works on host-pathogen interaction of pathogenic mycoplasmas and the development of innovative control measures. Mycoplasmas are fastidious, minimalistic and cell wall-deficient bacteria. The project focuses on the development of a Mycoplasma feriruminatoris vaccine chassis, its safety and heterologous expression of vaccine antigens.
Responsibilities
Working towards the project milestones with other team members
Manipulation of the Mycoplasma feriruminatoris genome using synthetic genomics
Heterologous expression of antigens using mix and match gene cassettes
Assistance in resource mobilization and teaching activities
Requirements
A PhD degree in the field of microbiology, biochemistry or immunology
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Curiosity and a high level of perseverance would be an asset
Our institute is situated just a few minutes away from the center of the UNESCO world heritage old city of Bern. The remuneration is in accordance with the SNF regulations (annual gross salary of CHF 80,000 to 105,000).
