Position Overview

The Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology at the University of Chicago is seeking applications for a full-time Instructional Professor, open rank. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to graduate-level education in quantitative biology, working with both the Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) training program and multiple NIH T32 programs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with MCB faculty to develop and co-teach graduate-level courses covering:

    • Fundamental scientific programming

    • Quantitative data analysis

  • Design and deliver modular short courses and workshops on:

    • Advanced data analysis

    • Mathematical modeling and computer simulation

    • Best practices in reproducible and rigorous science

  • Lead the creation, evaluation, and refinement of hands-on learning components for new and existing courses

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to graduate students developing core or advanced skills in computation, programming, and quantitative methods tailored to their research


Minimum Qualifications

Prior to the start date, applicants must:

  1. Hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in quantitative biology or a related field

  2. Have relevant university-level teaching experience, either as a primary instructor or teaching assistant


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as the primary instructor for undergraduate or graduate-level courses

  • Expertise in quantitative biology

  • Ability to begin the position in Summer 2025
