for the Chair of “Plant Eco­logy”.

Work­ing field:

The can­did­ate is expec­ted to teach in Eng­lish and Ger­man in the bach­elor’s and mas­ter’s pro­grams in “Eco­logy and Envir­on­mental Plan­ning” and “Land­scape Archi­tec­ture” as well as the mas­ter’s pro­grams in “Urban Eco­sys­tem Sci­ences” and “Envir­on­mental Plan­ning”. Integ­rat­ive and innov­at­ive sci­entific-based research approaches are expec­ted in order to gain an under­stand­ing of biod­iversity pat­terns in cit­ies and other anthro­po­gen­ous sys­tems, of the main drivers of urban biod­iversity change and related eco­lo­gical impacts, of approaches to evid­ence-based nature con­ser­va­tion and plant-related eco­sys­tem ser­vices in anthro­po­gen­ous sys­tems, as well as of the pos­sib­il­it­ies to reduce new envir­on­mental risks from plants.

Require­ments:

An aca­demic is sought from the dis­cip­lines of plant eco­logy, veget­a­tion eco­logy, urban eco­logy, land­scape eco­logy, and related dis­cip­lines with out­stand­ing expert­ise in innov­at­ive research in at least one of the fol­low­ing research fields: Ana­lyses of spa­tial-tem­poral pat­terns of plant spe­cies and plant pop­u­la­tions and their nat­ural and anthro­po­gen­ous determ­in­ing factors and pro­cesses; the inter­de­pend­ency of plants and other organ­isms and envir­on­mental factors in cit­ies and environs and related eco­sys­tem ser­vices; eco­lo­gic­ally based inter­ven­tions in urban eco­sys­tems to pro­mote biod­iversity and eco­sys­tem ser­vices. Applic­ants are fur­ther expec­ted to have con­trib­uted to the devel­op­ment of scen­arios, mod­els, and approaches for the devel­op­ment of sus­tain­able, resi­li­ent urban land­scapes as well as demon­strate skills at the inter­face between plan­ning sci­ences and social sci­ences. With regard to the range of meth­ods, proven expert­ise is expec­ted in more than one of the fol­low­ing areas:

(1) cross-scale plant eco­logy research in the ana­lysis of changes in biod­iversity in space and time;
(2) sci­entific ana­lyses, exper­i­ments and mod­el­ings;
(3) long-term obser­va­tions and time-series ana­lyses;
(4) devel­op­ing inter­faces between plan­ning sci­ences and social sci­ences.

In addi­tion to the duties estab­lished in Sec­tion 99 of the Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act (Ber­lHG), applic­ants are expec­ted to have the abil­ity to lead staff in the advance­ment of junior schol­ars and women as well as in the area of gender & diversity.

Ful­fill­ment of the appoint­ment require­ments pur­su­ant to Sec­tion 100 of the Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act. This includes a uni­versity degree, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research (gen­er­ally proven by PhD), addi­tional research archieve­ments (Habili­ation, post-doc­toral teach­ing, or equi­val­ent qual­i­fic­a­tion) as well as ped­ago­gical suit­ab­il­ity presen­ted as a teach­ing port­fo­lio (fur­ther inform­a­tion avail­able on the TUB web­site, quick access 144242). Applic­ants must be able to con­duct teach­ing in Ger­man and Eng­lish. The requis­ite lan­guage skills were determ­ined by the Aca­demic Sen­ate in its decision on lan­guage policy of 16.5.2018.
