We are looking to appoint a Teaching and Research Lecturer to deliver world-leading research and teaching in Medical Genetics. This is a full-time teaching and research position within the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences (SBBS), a large and expanding academic unit, which provides a supportive and friendly environment that prides itself on its inclusivity of staff and students as well as research-led innovative teaching throughout its educational programmes. We are looking for applicants that can deliver outstanding research that contributes to our strengths in genetics and genomics. We expect the Lecturer to contribute to the research vibrance of the School, to attract external funding, to publish high-quality papers, and to establish research their groups. The School delivers a Joint Programme (JP) of education with Nanchang University, China in Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Medicine. In this programme, students substitute nearly all the first three years of their Nanchang undergraduate medical degree with a modified version of the QMUL BSc in Biomedical Sciences, that is taught in English in Nanchang, China, principally by UK academic faculty flying out to deliver the teaching in small discrete blocks of teaching. The JP curriculum was recently externally reviewed, and we are incorporating new elements to the curriculum to further improve the student experience as well as ensure we provide the strongest evidence-based educational background for future clinical doctors and medical researchers; this post is central to improving the curriculum. Most of the formal lectures are delivered in Nanchang with some blended elements of teaching carried out remotely as well, although the successful applicants will be based on the Mile End campus when not abroad on a teaching block. Applicants should note that staff will not be travelling to China until UK government advice, QMUL and our insurers agree it is safe to do so. The Lecturer will also make significant contributions to student education and experience on the Nanchang JP through regular updating of taught material, assessments, and timely and collegiate engagement across the entire JP. Applicants are expected to have advanced knowledge in their subject area and the ability to teach related subjects at more introductory levels. Applicants should have an excellent academic background in scientific research with a PhD in Genetics or a related discipline.
