We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher to work on an N8 research project that is testing and developing new mobile instrumentation for greenhouse gas (GHG) and stable isotope measurements from agricultural ecosystems.

 

The post will deploy recently acquired analytical capabilities in the N8 ‘Gaslab’ to help meet the challenge of building soil functioning and resilience in UK farming systems. Specific activities will include designing, sampling and experiments to determine the impact of grassland biodiversity and management on in situ GHG effluxes. The role also will contribute to testing the effectiveness of manipulating plant diversity and functional traits to build soil functioning. Plus the role will involve working with collaborators to build meetings and proposals for further research.

 

The post will be based at Lancaster University and will join a multi-disciplinary research team with co-investigators from the University of Manchester.

 

You will hold a PhD in Ecology, Soil Science or a related discipline and will have research expertise in plant-soil ecology, biogeochemistry-physics with experience of project management, working overseas and extended fieldwork campaigns.  You will be self-motivated, collaborative, hold strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be prepared for new challenges. Ability to work independently is also essential. 

 

This is a six month fixed term appointment.
