Applications are invited to a research assistant position in the group of Marko Hyvonen at the Department of Biochemistry (https://hyvonen.bioc.cam.ac.uk)/

The successful applicant will support two COVID-19 related research projects in the group and help with general running of the laboratory, including ordering of consumables and assisting with running of the research facility for protein production in the group.

An ideal candidate will have experience in molecular cloning, protein expression in E. coli, in protein purification and characterisation. Expertise in immunological assays would be desirable. Prior experience in using AKTA purification systems would be an advantage as would be experience in biophysical analyses and protein crystallisation. Training for all the techniques will be provided as needed.

A successful candidate is expected to be motivated and a good team player. The work is collaborative within the group and with external partners, requiring work to be done to set deadlines and to highest of standards. The postholder should have great attention to detail and provide timely reports on the progress to the line managers and to collaborators. Good record keeping in many ways is vital in this role.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
