About the role


You will develop and carry out your own informatics research in one or more of the following bioinformatics research themes in the Department of Genetics and Genome Biology: extending the data integration and visualisation capabilities of the world’s largest open genome-wide association study database, GWAS Central (www.gwascentral.org); developing methods, software and interfaces for genotype and phenotype data discover; using semantics and ontologies to integrate and compare biomedical data.

 

You will take a leading role in shaping the direction of bioinformatics research activities whilst providing advice and guidance to the the bioinformatics team.


About you


The successful candidate will be educated to PhD level, or close to completion, in bioinformatics or computer science with a good background in biomedical research or data management.

 

You will have to demonstrate exceptional expertise in programming languages (at least one of Perl, PHP or Python) and deploying and maintaining relational databases, as well as outstanding communication and consultancy skills, and a proven ability to contribute to the development of presentations and peer reviewed publications.
