Salary
£27511 to £40322 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £30,942 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

An exciting opportunity is available to contribute to the final stages in delivering a farm level digital crop management service to support innovation in the Mexican and Argentinian cereal and sugar cane industries. This position is part of a UK Space Agency Funded project involving UK, Mexican and Argentinian partners led by Rezatec Ltd.

The project uses data and model analytics to target crop management improvements at an individual farm level. Working with the industrial partners the role holder will work on the application of crop models to using real time data inputs to provide forecasts which underpin a farmer information service. The project provides a great opportunity to work at the interface of science and practice.

Candidates must have:

  • PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant computational or agricultural discipline
  • Relevant and applied practical experience in statistical and computational modelling techniques in R (particularly focused on simulation models, regression and data visualisation)
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and work to tight deadlines
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal with a variety of people at different levels

Experience of crop models or related disciplines specifically; background knowledge of the agriculture industry and/or application of modelling methods to arable agriculture and good project management skills are all desirable.

These are fixed-term posts available until 31 March 2021. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours per week), however job share arrangements may be considered

The posts are available immediately and the availability to start work will be a factor in selection.  Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic the work may have to be conducted on a working from home basis.
