Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance. This role is to work in the laboratory of Dr Mateo Sanchez, located in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. We are a growing chemical-biology research group that leverages synthetic biology approaches to develop new molecular tools for optogenetics, cell biology or neuroscience. The research will concentrate on both the development of different platforms for the directed evolution of target enzymes, which will be later implemented into different molecular tools, and the engineering and maturation of antibodies using phage or yeast surface display. The successful candidate is expected to develop new ideas and concepts in the areas outlined above in collaboration with the PI, by combining their expertise with the core capabilities of the lab. The role holder is expected to work on projects as part of a team, and be able to communicate their results clearly. If you are interested in learning more about our philosophy and expectations, please visit (http://www.mateosanchezlab.com/). Applicants should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in molecular and synthetic biology, with an emphasis on protein engineering. Experience in directed evolution will be highly desirable and some expertise in enzyme catalysis would be ideal. The first round of interviews will be held virtually, and successful applicants will be later invited to visit the lab. The start date is negotiable but will be expected to begin in the latter part of the year.
