LMU Munich offers a stimulating work atmosphere with opportunities for further education and growth.Scientist with a strong research focus In the lab of newly appointed Prof. Guldimann, a permanent research position is available. We are a large food safety laboratory within the Veterinary Faculty of the Ludwig-Maximillians-University (LMU) of Munich. Within the next five years, we will develop a strong research focus in host-pathogen and pathogen-environment interactions. Projects will span basic science as well as applied projects in collaboration with the food industry. Our approach is multidisciplinary, using classic microbiology, molecular approaches, next generation sequencing, cell culture, and mathematical modelling. We offer expertise and lab space for molecular biology, cell culture, food chemistry and analytics, and mycology. A Maldi-TOF-MS, LC-MS und FT-IR are available; the acquisition of a sequencer is planned. Your responsibilities will include: - You contribute to the strategic development of the lab - You will manage the daily research activities in the lab, including the supervision and instruction of postdocs, doctoral students and technicians - You analyze research data and prepare manuscripts for submission to scientific journals. You communicate with statisticians and assess the feasibility of a statistical approach - You apply for third-party funding - You co-teach courses in food safety to veterinary students (10%). conditionsYour profile- Doctoral degree or PhD in veterinary medicine or equivalent. A title as a diplomate of the ECVPH /ACVM /ECVM /Fachtierarzt or equivalent is desirable. - Post-doctoral experience in a relevant field: food microbiology, host-pathogen interactions, cell culture, or food chemistry and analytics. Expertise in next generation sequencing is not required, but desirable. - You are a critical, creative thinker who can develop and expand projects in basic research and in collaboration with the industry. Your input on the best technical approaches to re-search questions will be a valuable contribution on the overall success of our research program. This requires excellent communication skills towards students, technicians and industry partners. - You enjoy teaching your skills to the young scientists you supervise. You are enthusiastic about sharing your passion for research with the next generation of scientists and techni-cians, and you can provide them with a structured approach to their projects. - You have in the past successfully acquired third party funding. Ideally, you are familiar with the different grant institutions in Germany / Europe. Language skills Proficiency in science communication, written and oral, formal and informal. In order to participate in collaboration projects with the industry and to participate in teaching to veterinary students, you speak German fluently or are willing to learn German to a level of TELC A2 within one year, B2 within two years.
