Job descriptionJob summaryWe are looking to appoint a Research Associate in infectious diseases to join the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London. You will be joining Professor Frankel’s Group based in the MRC Centre for Bacteriology Microbiology and Infection (CMBI), located in the Flowers Building, South Kensington Campus. The CMBI is a centre of excellence housing several groups studying bacterial pathogenesis, secretion systems, virulence and colonisation factors, gene expression, bacterial cell walls, toxins and biofilms. Enteric bacterial infections and inflammation are intimately linked with metabolism and the microbiome. Recent studies illustrated the fluidity of the pathogenic state, which could be tilted towards commensalism by changes to diet and the composition of the microbiota. Moreover, we have shown that infections are orchestrated by intracellular type III secretion system effector networks (Cell Metabol. 26 (2017), 738-752.e6; Cell Reports 20 (2017), 2201-2214; Science 371 (2021); eabc9531; mBio. 26 (2021), e0241021; ). You will use the natural mouse pathogen Citrobacter rodentium to model pathogen-host-microbiome interactions. Candidates interested in infection, pathogenesis, inflammation and metabolism are encouraged to apply. Duties and responsibilitiesYou will be expected to perform the outlined experiments to a high standard. In particular, you will be expected to:
