Salary:£30942 to £40322 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

This role will lead a project entitled “Controlling cadmium update and partitioning into cocoa beans in Theobroma cacao”. The holder of this post will: generate cadmium accumulation data in cocoa beans from 500 accessions of T. cacao; determine cadmium concentration in xylem exudate as a rapid screening tool for bean cadmium; identify root stock for use in grafting to confer low cadmium accumulation in the scion, including the beans; identify genetic markers linked with conferring low and high bean cadmium using genome-wide association mapping

The main responsibilities for this role are:

    DNA Sequencing, Cadmium Analysis, Bioinformatics and Marker Development

    Coordination of Collaborative Analytical Efforts

    Manuscript Drafting

Applicants must meet the essential criteria which include:

    PhD in relevant subject

    Previous experience in using Molecular biology techniques, including DNA extraction, sequencing and genotyping

    Bioinformatic skills including establishing novel pipelines in Python and adapting the code of others into modified Python pipelines

    Previous experience working with T. cacao and knowledgeable in its diversity, genetics and population structure

This post will be offered on a full time, fixed term contract for a period of 12 months. A further 18 months may be available subject to the project passing its mid-term milestones. Job share arrangements may be considered.
