Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) – Diabetes Research Center The Diabetes Research Center at Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) is working for the improved prevention, reversal, and treatment of diabetes and related complications and comorbidities, contributing to the Qatar national diabetes research strategy and health priorities programs. The center identifies and validates genetic, environmental, and molecular risk factors for insulin resistance, obesity, and diabetes. It innovates diagnostics for the prevention of diabetes and obesity and develops precision health strategies for the treatment of diabetes and obesity. Responsibilities Develop and conduct independent/joint original research contributing to the institute programs working independently and as part of a team to create unique, impactful science in their area of research expertise. Develop multidisciplinary research programs with synergies to ongoing research agenda to achieve an international standard for science and research activities. Contribute to the development of QBRI’s overall research strategy, business plan, research roadmap, and execution. Support and implement programs and initiatives for setting up the center’s infrastructure and laboratory facilities to ensure the achievement of the center’s objectives and milestones. Prepare and submit research proposals to appropriate national and international agencies in order to secure competitive funding complementing HBKU resources. Contribute to research projects’ administrative functions and monitoring requests. Participate in research conferences and seminars in their field of expertise. Produce conference, seminar papers, and publications from research. Supervise and train Master/PhD students, research associates, postdoctoral fellows, research support, and technical staff in relevant areas of work. Ensure proper records and documentation of research experiments, samples, and specimens examined or maintained simultaneously ensuring the accuracy of laboratory reports. Ensure adequate levels of consumable supplies and other items required for scientific experiments, research projects, and laboratory work are managed and used appropriately. As part of the joint appointment, support HBKU colleges and contribute to teaching collaboration on research projects and graduate student supervision. Collaborate with local stakeholders for research, community engagement, technology transfer, educational partnership, grant funding, healthcare and medical research etc. Participate in the interview and selection process for QBRI research positions. Assist with, and, where appropriate, be responsible for policies and procedures related to research project management, ethical and regulatory compliance, and other relevant policies to ensure that the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute meets research quality objectives towards accreditation standards. Support revising/or preparing new procedures within the Qatar Biomedical Research Institutes as appropriate. Provide progress reports, analysis, recommendations, and presentations to cross-functional teams and the research center director. Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements PhD in sciences or related field with hands-on laboratory experience. Minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience with a demonstrated strong track record of publications, scholarly output, conference papers, reports, and/or professional and/or technical contributions in the relevant scientific discipline.
