About the Role

Applications are sought for a Bioinformatician/Computer Scientist to contribute to the analysis of the 100,000 Genomes Project data and understand the contribution of short tandem repeat variants in neurological diseases.   

About You

As a member of our team, you will contribute to the understanding of complex genetic variants that underlie human neurological diseases, with a specific focus on repetitive DNA variants known as short tandem repeats (STRs). Our work focuses on using novel computational tools to study STR variation in large population data and in families to inform interpretation of STRs in neurological diseases. You will be part of William Harvey Research Institute at Queen Mary University of London, but will also hold an honorary contract, and work closely with scientists, at the UCL Institute of Neurology.

The successful candidate should be a highly enthusiastic individual with an expertise in the analysis of genomic data (next generation sequencing) covering QC, handling, processing & interpretation; and a tech technical expertise in either bioinformatics, computational biology, or biostatistics.

This post is part of a collaboration between Arianna Tucci, MRC Clinician Scientist, Professor Mark Caulfield, chief scientist of Genomics England and Professor Henry Houlden, co-lead of the Neurology GeCIP domain (

The post is based at the Charterhouse Square Campus in London. It is full time fixed term appointment for two years, with an expected start date of April 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 6, in the range of (£47,325 - £52,833) inclusive of London Allowance.
