Description

The Department of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Los Angeles seeks applicants for an Assistant Project Scientist position.

Nature of the research:

· Investigating mechanisms by which signaling pathways affect hematopoiesis and cancer regulation in Drosophila
· Working with Drosophila melanogaster as a model species.
· Gaining a better understanding of how blood cell development is controlled and how this process may go awry in cancer models.

Role and Responsibilities:

· Designing experiments and implementing research projects.
· Performing fly husbandry, dissections, and immunofluorescence on various tissues and cells of Drosophila.
· Conducting high resolution imaging microscopy using various technologies.
· Managing a small team of undergraduate researchers.
· Collaborating across multiple projects within the laboratory and internationally.
· Communicating research findings within the laboratory and internationally.
· Writing papers, grant proposals and generating publication quality figures.

Experience and qualifications required:

· PhD in the field of molecular biology or biochemistry, preferably with some knowledge of Drosophila melanogaster.
· 5 years or more of postdoctoral experience at a high-level research laboratory in the field of developmental biology and genetics.
· Proficiency in techniques such as immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, RNASeq, laser scanning confocal microscopy, and live imaging.
· A publication track record in high quality academic journals.
· Extensive experience with utilizing Drosophila databases and resources.
· Evidence of excellent communication skills from presentations at national and international conferences.
