Applications are invited for a Teaching Professor position in the School of Biological Sciences at UC Irvine. The Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (MBB) is dedicated to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. As such, MBB has Masters of Science Programs in Biotechnology and Biotech & Management providing much needed training for students interested in working in large and small biotech/pharma companies or other biotechnology based careers. The two-year degree programs include both lab and lecture courses and a significant research component in individual UCI labs. The Department is looking for a Teaching Professor with experience in directing, developing and teaching in Masters and PhD Programs. The individual will be responsible for all aspects of the program, which in addition to administrative responsibilities, includes initiation and support for the development of courses that incorporate evidence-based teaching practices, active learning strategies, and technologies that facilitate student engagement. Demonstrated experience teaching Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology lecture and laboratory courses is required and would enable contributions to MBB undergraduate courses if needed and time and effort permits.

Teaching Professor Faculty are full members of the Academic Senate. Advancement in this series is based on excellence in teaching, research in a specific discipline and/or pedagogy, and service. It is expected that the successful candidate will play a prominent role in biology education research, working with teaching and research faculty to develop, implement and assess innovative pedagogical initiatives. 
A Ph.D. with emphasis in Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or Microbiology is required.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

  2. Provide a detailed plan of their future educational/scientific research program, and how this program will be leveraged to obtain extramural funding.
  3. Indicate how the candidate’s research program will synergize with the research environment at UCI.

Teaching Statement (3 pages).

  1. Indicate the candidate’s teaching experiences to date, including experience with teaching/lecturing to graduate/undergraduate students, or other populations, as well as their areas of interest.   2. Detail the candidate’s teaching approaches and philosophies, as to how they will engage in effective teaching strategies.
  3. Provide evidence (if any) of effectiveness of previous teaching.
